Bits

-I have a teaser up at www.heatherblakebooks.com -- a few lines from the opening of It Takes a Witch.

-Another busy day. Not sure why my Thursdays are so crazy. I'll be here, there, everywhere. Then it's dinnertime.

-What's for dinner? Tonight, it's boneless pork chops, butternut squash, mashed potatoes and gravy. Oh, and Pillsbury crescent rolls for everyone else.

-It's been a little over six months since I started eating a gluten free diet, and it's made a huge difference with my health. I'd say at this point, I'm about 95% gluten free. Every once in awhile, I fall off the GF wagon, because I'm either at a restaurant with no (good) GF options, or I'm simply cheating (pizza, cupcakes, etc.)--and I do pay for it. It's definitely a lifestyle change but worth it.

-We're expecting a dusting to an inch of snow overnight. I'm thinking the kids might get a delay if the timing is right. They, of course, are hoping for another long weekend. It would be the third in a row. I know tons of people are sick of the snow, but I figure if it's going to be this cold, it may as well snow. I'd rather look at the white than the dreary gray and browns.

-I'm at The Naked Hero today, talking about crunch time. Do you like deadlines?

  1. I love how pretty the snow makes the city, especially as it covers building facade and trees.

I'm about 50% gluten-free. It's the restaurant that are my downfall. Kudos to you on being 95%.

  2. Dru, I bet the city is gorgeous in the snow. I have a friend who was supposed to fly in this morning, but her flight's been canceled. Now she's trying to drive there! Crossing fingers she makes it just fine.

Those restaurants are going to be my downfall. That and pizza!

  3. Heather, I have been GF for over 15 years. It was either that or die, huh, GF it is!
Last year I was given a cook book called Quinoa 365, about 95% GF recipes. Brownies! Pie! For the first time in over 15 years PIE! Quinoa flour is expensive but PIE!
Okay, can you tell I am happy about the pie.

  4. Dying isn't so good, no. LOL. My favorite pasta is made from quinoa. I couldn't stand the rice pasta. With the quinoa, I don't even notice a difference a lot of time. I have to look into more baking recipes. Just seems so overwhelming at first. But pie is definitely worth trying.

My sentiments exactly! I can handle the snow, it's these infernal Alberta Clippers rolling in one after another that I'm getting tired of.

Your dinner has me drooling, BTW, and sounds a lot yummier than mine: a tuna casserole with broccoli and carrots.
