Are you one of those people who believes that everything happens for a reason? The good, the bad, the ugly?
I am. I'm not sure why--I think it's just an innate desire to feel that everything (good, bad, ugly) has a reason. That there may be pain (temporarily) but that the greater universe will sort everything out.
For example, I know writers who had series dropped (ugly, very ugly) then picked themselves up, dusted themselves off, and wrote new books that made bestseller lists. So maybe that initial bad thing was a good thing in disguise?
Another example is a friend who lost her job (very, very ugly) only to find a new job she loves even more.
Then, sometimes, when something ugly happens a life lesson is learned. Once burned, twice shy and all that. So again, a life lesson is a good thing, right?
2010 has been a mix of good, bad, and ugly--for a lot of us. I know I'm looking forward to 2011 being all about the good (I can hope, right?). But even if it's not, I'm going to cling stubbornly to the notion that whatever is happening is happening for a reason...

You and me both!!
ReplyDeleteIt really has been one of those "life lesson, character building" years. I think we learn from all the experiences. The good, the bad and especially the ugly.
ReplyDeleteI learned some very valuable lessons about friendship this year. People aren't always who they portray themselves to be but that's okay. It just makes you appreciate the kind souls that are in your life even more.
I'm looking for 2011 to be a better year for me and a breakout year for all my friends who have books coming out in the coming years.
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping we all have fabulous years in 2011!!! And, like Lisa said, that we all appreciate the kind souls in our lives that much more.
ReplyDelete2010 was largely a very, VERY ugly year at my house with unemployment taking a toll. But it's turning around and I hope to have some very exciting news to report shortly after the first of the year. Nothing is definite, so I can't say more just yet. Aren't I a tease??? ;-)
ReplyDeleteI believe with all my heart that everything happens for a reason. I believe when bad things happen it is because there is a lesson to be learned from it OR it is to make space/room for the good thing coming to replace it.
ReplyDeleteI lost my job in 2010 but because of that I have finally gotten myself back into college to go after my career. I was so surprised to find out I only needed 14 classes for my degree!! IF I had known that I would have gone back YEARS ago!!
I have always seen things that way. Through an abusive ex-husband I learned how to appreciate nice guys and am now married to a nice guy and have the most amazing mother-in-law in the world. I do believe everything happens for a reason.
Of course everything happens for a reason. The most common reason, Life Sucks.
