My daughter declared today to be over-sized sweatshirt day, and suggested I may want to participate. She knows me well--so she really didn't have to ask. My usual daytime uniform during the chillier months is jeans and an over-sized sweatshirt. Love the comfy-ness and the warmth of the sweatshirt, and jeans are pretty much a second skin for me.
I happened to stop in to the local B&N the other day, and one of the women who works there said (I'm paraphrasing), "I almost didn't recognize you. The last time I saw you, you were all dolled up."
The last time she'd seen me was at one of my signings. I'd done my hair, my makeup, wore a nice blazer, had the heels on. The whole nine yards.
That day I was wearing jean shorts, an over-sized Red Sox sweatshirt, and sneakers. I barely had any makeup on and my hair was in a sloppy ponytail. I said, "This is the everyday me."
She said she liked it even better than the dolled up look.
I like her. :)
I don't think I can get away with wearing a sweatshirt to a signing, though. Dressing up makes me feel a bit more professional, and I think readers expect that to a certain degree. But, I almost always wear jeans. Just can't help myself.
Today--yep, a sweatshirt and jeans. Well, once I get out of my flannel jammies and robe (I luv my robe). How about you? Will you be participating in over-sized sweatshirt Thursday?
PS: I'm blogging at The Naked Hero today about epiphanies and hallelujahs and...cleaning. Hope you'll stop by!
Your everyday outfit sounds like mine. The only change I make in the summer is to go to an oversize tee shirt. I like the sweatshirts a little bigger than the tee shirts.

Thoughts in Progress
No sweatshirts allowed at work but I'm under two months to retirement and counting. Then - oh yeah - sweatshirts and jeans.
ReplyDeleteAnd as far as I'm concerned, you are ALWAYS appropriately dressed if the sweatshirt says Red Sox!!
No sweatshirts at work, but I just happened to be wearing a fleece jackets to ward of the chills in the daytime workplace.
ReplyDeleteWhen I get home, then I'll have on the sweatshirt.
I'm wearing sweats today, and I never wear sweats all day. Have to admit it feels pretty good!
ReplyDeleteYou may be onto something here, H...
I'm a jeans girl too. And I can wear them to my part time day job. :) But, I don't think I could wear an oversized sweat shirt, and would likely get too hot in one at the office anyway. But, it certainly sounds comfy!
ReplyDeleteTee-hee! I stole one of Mr. Webber's sweatshirts today. Much more comfy than any of my own. Now I'm back in my flannel jammies, though. Ahhhh. Heaven.
