Bits and Pieces

* Saw a bumper sticker this morning when I was dropping off the kiddos. "Gone Crazy...Back Soon." Loved it! Might need to get myself one for the bulletin board above my desk.

*If you're unable to make any of my signings (see sidebar) and would like an autographed bookplate for your copy of Truly, Madly just send your snail mail addy to heather@heatherwebber.com and I'll send you one.

* Open letter to Mother Nature:

Dear M.N.,

Please send sunshine as soon as possible. I don't even care if it's cold. Just some sun would be nice for my mental health.

Thank you.

~Heather

PS: Love your work.

*I spent over $100 dollars on a calculator last night. Doesn't that just seem wrong? I'm still having sticker shock, but my son needed it for school and you know how that goes. Oh and the calc came with a USB cable! I am SO behind the times.

*I've also been shoe shopping, which is honestly the only kind of shopping I truly love (well, besides office supplies [calcs don't count!]), but sadly the shoes were not for me but for my daughter. She has a winter semi-formal coming up. Can I just say finding a fancy flat or a fancy kitten heel is nearly impossible (she doesn't like high heels)? Almost turned me against shoe shopping altogether. Almost. We finally found a pair at Famous Footwear. Whew. They're the cutest satin ballet slipper with a little bow that matches her dress. Now another challenge: to chaperone the dance or not. Mwa-ha-ha.

*The (gently) used book giveaway starts next week. Be sure to check back to get your hands on some great books.

How about your bits and pieces? Have you seen any bumper stickers lately you love, want to have a heart to heart with Mother Nature, gripe about the cost of things that kids are required to have for school, or found a pair of shoes you love lately?

  1. I did see a bumper sticker that just said SOL (s*** out of luck) with the symbol that was on all the Obama posters as the O.

I just want it to not rain so I can run outside. treadmills just aren't as fun and I like watching the scenery go by.

I don't have to buy expensive things for the kids for school, but I'm sure I'll complain come August when I have to buy school supplies again. now the books I have to buy for school are outrageously priced. not fair.

I'll be shoe shopping for some new running shoes in a few weeks, cannot wait to start looking. I've only recently started to love shoes. Though I did just get a pair of Croc flip flops for $5 (yay outlet sales with free shipping) that are THE most comfortable shoes I have ever put on my feet. literally.

  2. Haha! Love that bumper sticker, Heather. But don't know if I will be back soon. Or at least maybe not till like mid-February? I mean seems like you make all these New Year's resolutions but it's taking me most of January to clean up from last year -- if that makes sense (Christmas, taxes, 1099', etc, etc.)

But it's going to be a great year, right? That's what I keep telling myself. I'm just a little late starting on it.

What I really hated about those high school calculators -- is when one of the kids lost one -- You what? ACK! Or they lent it to someone who you know, never managed to give it back! Crazy -- and expensive!

So fun to think about the winter formal though-- now that's money that's fun to spend! Can't wait to hear more!

  3. Katie, I see a lot of nurses wearing crocs--that might be why. You'll have to get yourself a "work" pair soon! And just wait on the expensive stuff... Sigh.

Cathy, definitely a GREAT year for you! I predict amazing things, especially right around the time your new book comes out. And funny you should mention losing the calculator. Yeah. That's why we needed a new one. Sigh. But at least the lost one was a hand-me-down in the first place.
    Kids. Sheesh.

  4. Saw a tiny little old lady driving a car with the bumper sticker:
    Keep Honking
    I'm Reloading

For the record, I hate shoe shopping or shopping of any kind. I must have missed getting that gene.

  5. I hate shopping, especially for shows. I have flat feet and it's hard to find a nice comfortable pair.

I pay for my niece's college dorm and was informed that the cost will increase next year; there's goes my savings.

I remember buying my niece's calculator and being confused that it cost ove $100. What happened to the good old regular calculator that I grew up with?

  7. Hi Gaylin, LOL on the bumper sticker. That's really funny. I understand about the shopping, really, since I can't stand buying clothes. But shoes...ah, I weakness.

Dru, what a great aunt you are! That's really generous of you. And yeah, the increase in fees puts a damper on a budget. :/

Elizabeth, I'm SO with you. It's dreary again today, though slightly warmer. Supposed to be 45* --but still no sun! Boo!

  8. Oh how I can relate to having trouble finding formal shoes without a heel. Glad your daughter found something that she likes and glad I almost never have a need to wear "fancy" shoes! :) I have been craving a new pair of casual shoes and found a pair at a local consignment shop for $7 - wahoo! Don't you just love wearing something new for the first time and feeling cute? Better yet, to feel cute and smart for finding such an incredible deal. Here's to finding a great pair of shoes!

P.S. I found your blog thanks for to the fabulous Truly, Madly bookmark I got in the mail yesterday - thanks! I am enjoying your blog entries. I tend to be a quiet observer in the blog world, but perhaps I'll throw in a comment here or there for fun!

  9. Kristin, finding a deal is always wonderful! We have some outlet shops near us and every once in a while I stumble on something really great... Almost makes shopping worth it.

And I do hope you'll stick around. It's nice to see you here!
